What is a flamacue?
To a serious percussionist, it is one of the 40 essential drum rudiments (basic skills) he/she must master. It looks like this:
Unlike many of the other rudiments drum students learn, the Flamacue has a distinct sound because its first accent is played on the sixteenth note immediately following the down beat rather than on the down beat itself. The placement of that accent defines the rudiment; its removal produces an otherwise ordinary, uninteresting riff.
